Mrs. Ann Gillian Tailleur

Ann Gillian Tailleur passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Ann was born Ann Gillian Holland on September 18, 1933, in St. Pancreas, London. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles, parents, Harold and Kathleen Holland, brother , Michael Holland, of Duxford, England and her grandparents, Percival Painton and Sarah Floyd-Painton. Ann was a child of World War II, living through raids in London and food rationing. As the war escalated, her parents sent her from London to live with her grandparents in the countryside of East Hanney, England. Ann attended school in Wantage where, as a result of her academic prowess, was chosen to attend the prestigious Faringdon School for girls, with her best mate, Stella. Despite the ocean between them, Ann’s friendship with Stella remained strong and Stella always kept the phone by her bed to receive late night calls from Ann in the States. On January 15, 1953, at the age of 19, Ann immigrated to the United States aboard the Queen Mary. Immediately upon arrival, she began working at the Cunard Shipping lines, 1 Broadway, NYC, in their typing pool. While many suitors vied for her affection, Ann quickly fell in love with and married Charles Tailleur on April 24, 1955. Charlie and Ann started their lives together in Rockville Centre, New York and, in 1969, relocated to Climax, after discovering the old Miner farm. From the moment they moved there, they embraced the community and it them. Ann and Charles brought the neighborhood atmosphere to their home and Ann quickly became a familiar face at the school, library, and Town Hall, often advocating for her latest cause. Ann was best known by her height, accent, contagious laugh, and poor driving skills. Ann worked side by side with her husband running Grand Sun Real Estate. Together they wandered the County looking at real estate and at the Clerk’s Office researching title. Her husband always said she was the brains of the operation. Ann also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Chaloner. In her later years, she took on her most important job, caring daily for beloved grandchildren. On any given day, you could see her spinning through Town with at least two grandchildren in tow. Ann raised her children with a conscious awareness of the importance of compassion, education, community service, and social advocacy. When she was not caring for her family, she loved spending time with the garden club, at the Heermance Memorial Library and with her beloved circle of friends who lovingly attended to her to this day. Ann is survived by her children, Steven Tailleur, Elisabeth Stippa (Ken), Joan McDonald (Don) and Chip Tailleur (Beth) and grandchildren , Bronwyn (Drew), Sawyer, Gillian, Morgan, Maggie, Bryan, Matthew, Nathan and Anna, sister-in-law, Lucille Martin, niece and nephew, Leon Taufield and Joyce Sweet, and cousins Sally, Elizabeth, Frances and Jeff Morgan, of England, along with many lifelong friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at The W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, New York on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 4:00P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Coxsackie, New York. The family is eternally grateful for the loving care of the staff at The Pines provided to Ann.
