Carmine Micelli

Carmine Micelli, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 11, 2021, at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Albany, N.Y. He was born August 6, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Leonardo and Josephine (Santillo) Micelli. Carmine attended school and worked from the time he was 12 years old. He worked with his father in a hanger and cigarette factory. As a young boy he also helped out on his Uncle Tommy’s fruit cart selling produce throughout the streets of Brooklyn. He met the love of his life, Emily Commegna, in the first grade and married her on November 7, 1955. They moved to Rosedale, Queens and started a family. Carmine became a trained Butcher and cut meat for Key Foods and then Shop Rite, when they moved to Athens NY. He worked at his trade for over 30 years. After retirement, Carmine enjoyed traveling in his RV with his wife to Florida and many other spots in the United States. He especially loved Disneyworld and kept statues of Mickey and Minnie by his bedside. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. He enjoyed country living and riding his tractor. He loved spending time with family and especially his beloved Em. In his later years he loved telling stories from his youth in Brooklyn, often referring to himself as “Carmine from Brooklyn.” He enjoyed playing the accordion for family and friends and was proud to have been self-taught. In addition to his parents, Leo and Josephine, Carmine is predeceased by his younger brother Jack. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emily, his son Lennie, daughter in law, Diane and cherished grandchildren Rachael and Jason Micelli. His son Joseph and daughter in law, Shawn Micelli. His daughter Denise (Joseph) Ferraro and granddaughter Gina. Carmine is also survived by his sisters in law, brother- in- law, cousins, nephews, nieces and his and Emily’s dear friend, Jeanne from Van Allen Apartments. Family and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday July 20, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M., at Revive Church, 14462 Route 9W, New Baltimore, N.Y. 12143. Immediately following will be a remembrance service under the direction of Pastor Frank Mirocco. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, for their kind and compassionate care. Especially, Colleen, Ali and Maria.
