Mr. Edwin R. Rose Sr.

Edwin R. Rose, Sr. age 88 of Catskill, NY passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2015. He was born on June 1, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY and is the son of the late August and Ethel (Kaufer) Rose. He is survived by six children Edwin (Anne) Rose Jr. of Leeds, Patrick A. (JoAnne) Rose of Earlton, June Rose of Catskill, Douglas W. (Bridget) Rose of Leeds, Suzanne (Steven) Casabella of Earlton and Patricia A. (Jarrod) Rose of Hudson, Mass. He is also survived by grandchildren Kristofer Rose, David Rose, Michael Hollywood, Ryan Rose, Kyle Rose, Kevin Hollywood, Dillon Rose, Kevin Walker, Joshua Rose, Ashley Walker, Michaila Parker, Cameron Mahimtura, Jenna Rose, Tyler Mahimtura, great grandchildren Annelyse and Aiden Rose. Edwin moved up from Brooklyn in 1945 when his parents purchased and began operation of The Rose Haven Farm in Earlton. Edwin proudly served his country during WWII in The United States Marines achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. After his service in the military Edwin attended college in New Jersey earning degree in the field he would devote the rest of his career to electronics. Ed opened his own business “Ed’s Electronics” Reed St. Coxsackie in the 1950’s. During that time he also subcontracted his skills to George Kitchen’s Appliances in Leeds, NY, installing and repairing state of the art antennas to optimize three channel black and white reception. Ed then started work with IBM in 1955 as an engineer technician, his duties at IBM included testing radio waves for transmission towers. One of the jobs Ed was most proud of was testing the reception on top of the The World Trade Center Towers in NYC. Even after his retirement, Ed would later be called on to consult with IBM’s engineering division. Ed retired in 1987 after 35 dedicated years in IBM. During retirement, Ed first and foremost enjoyed spending time with his family, he also enjoyed his hobby of woodworking and carpentry. Edwin was a member of the Quarter Century Club and also volunteered to maintain the Webber Road Cemetery in Earlton. Calling hours will be held at The W. C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, NY, on Wednesday October 21, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home at 8:00 PM with Rev. Fr. Michael Flannery officiating, along with a eulogy by Betty June Cure. The United States Marine Corps will conduct Honor Guard Services at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 8:30 P.M. Private cremation will take place on Thursday, at The Vale Crematory, Schenectady, NY. Contributions in his memory may be made to Community Hospice, 47 Liberty St. Catskill, NY, 12414.
