Mrs. Hazel M. Fenaughty

Hazel M. Fenaughty, age 101 of Coxsackie, NY passed away into God’s loving arms on November 17, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar, N.Y. surrounded by her family. Born October 19, 1913 in Union City, NJ and was the daughter of the late Emil and Pauline Groth. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Walter, one brother, Emil (Lil) Groth, two sisters, Connie (Pete) Prusina and Jeanne (Tony) Manganaro, and an infant grandson, Gregory. She was the loving Mother of seven children (three who were adopted and two fostered): Daniel Fenaughty (predeceased), Mary (Christopher) Wood, (predeceased) and Dr. Frank (Joan) Fenaughty (predeceased), Ronald Fallarino (predeceased); Joseph (Donna) Fenaughty of Palenville, NY, William (Jane) Fenaughty of Castleton, NY, and Ronald (Carla) Snyder of Waterford, NY, and daughters-in-law Sara and Sharon. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her grandchildren: Mary, Alex, Maggie, Christopher (Cara), Jennifer (Sheila), Daniel (Larissa), Patrick, Lindsay and Ryan and great grandchildren Jessica, Nick, and Arthur. To her many nieces, nephews and extended family she was known as Aunt Hazel. She leaves behind a legacy of love and a huge family formed by marriage, birth, adoption, foster care and friendship. For over 20 years Hazel opened her home to countless foster care children; she inspired her own children and extended family members to foster and adopt children. She worked for the Greene County Office for the Aging until she retired at age 82. She continued to live on her own in South Cairo, NY until age 98 when a fall resulted in her needing care at Good Samaritan. Her family extends its gratitude to all the staff at Good Samaritan and her special friends, Jim and Deacon Dave. There will be a calling hour on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, NY from 9-10 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Good Samaritan Recreation Department in Hazel’s name.
