Mr. Henry A. Rausch

Rausch, Henry A. COXSACKIE – Henry A. Rausch, 74, of Coxsackie, NY passed away peacefully at Columbia Memorial Hospital on February 22, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was predeceased by his parents, Robert Rausch and Edith Gremett. Henry was raised by his grandparents, Henry and Josephine Rausch. As a young teenager, Henry moved to Coxsackie, graduating from Coxsackie-Athens High School in 1960. He was stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army from 1962-1965. Upon his return from serving his country, Henry resumed working at A&P Market in Coxsackie. Working in various capacities, he eventually rose to become the youngest store manager in the Northeast. The 1970s was Henry’s entrepreneurial decade. In ten years, he established multiple businesses including Patrick Henry’s Tavern and The Quarry Steakhouse. From there, Henry worked at Coxsackie and Greene Correctional Facilities retiring as Food Service Manager. Most recently, he was employed as a property manager for UMH Properties, Inc. Throughout his life, Henry gave back to the community he loved. His dedication to public service was extraordinary, serving the Village and Town of Coxsackie for decades in various roles including; former Commander of American Legion Post 166, Town Justice, Village Trustee, and Village Mayor for ten years. Of the numerous accomplishments during his long tenure in public service, Henry was particularly proud of the construction of the new village building, Rescue Squad and the D.M. Hamilton Steamer Co. #2 Firehouse. A man of indomitable will, with strong opinions to match, he nonetheless valued open and honest dialogue above all, and was always available to listen and consider all points of view. Henry’s love and commitment to his community was unwavering. Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marilyn (Finch) Rausch; four children, Michael Rausch, Ronald Rausch (Jennifer), Jennifer DeRose (Garret) and Max Rausch (Lori); brothers Robert and Barry Rausch, sister Mary Ann Brunner and very dear relative Robert Stark; six grandchildren, Margaret, Garret, Ronin, Ainsley, Nathan, Noah and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Cavell Cancer Center and Columbia Memorial Hospital for the exemplary level of care provided. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church in Coxsackie on Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00pm. Burial at Riverside Cemetery will take place immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 455 Patroon Creek Blvd, Albany, NY 12206 or to Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern NY, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
