Lyle Robert Patterson

Lyle Robert Patterson, affectionately known to many as Pa Grouch, age 86, of South Cairo, NY passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2023. Lyle was born in Athens, NY on Sept. 5th, 1936. Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Ethel (Eckler) and Lyle Patterson, son, Dale Patterson, grandson, David Ross, brother, Donald Patterson and sister in law, Jane Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arline (Beers) Patterson, daughters, Roberta Hopper and Laura (Tom) Skelly, daughter in law, Shari Patterson, and son in law, Sam Hopper. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jarrod (Alyssa), Jason, Andrew (Bri), Chandler and Tyler Patterson, Jessica Fredenburgh, Angeline Alberson, Gary and Rose Hopper, Victor Linary, Josh (Jenny) and Megan Skelly, his great grandchildren, Darren, Tyler and Ross Fredenburgh, Connor, Kayla, Chloe and Claire Alberson, Oaklynn Patterson and Rafael Skelly, his great great granddaughter, Hannah Fredenburgh and great great grandson, Clayton Brandow Fredenburgh. He was the eldest of eight children and is survived by his sister, Sally Patterson, brothers, Thomas, David (Patty), William (Joan), Raymond (Vickie) and Gary (Jane) Patterson and sister in law, Doris Patterson, and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was a graduate of Cairo High School Class of 1956. He was employed as a mechanic for his entire life, retiring in 2001 as head mechanic from Ski Windham where he was known for his brown Lawson winter cap. He was happy traveling in his RV across the entire United States for many years. You could always find him tinkering in his garage. If something was broken everyone new Pa could fix it. He was the patriarch of the Patterson family. He was the (sometimes grouchy) biggest supporter and mentor of his children, grandchildren and the Patterson family as a whole and will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Inc., 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y., 12413 on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. – 4 P.M. with services the same day at the funeral home at 4 P.M.
