Marlies M. Tudda

Marlies Tudda, lovingly called “Oma” by so many, was born on June 28th, 1934 to Wilhelm and Luise Meyer of Hanover, Germany. Marlies was called home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2023. Having a strong sense of adventure, Marlies moved to the US in her early 20’s. She met and married John Tudda in 1961. Over time, her English improved as did John’s German. They adopted Michelle in 1966 and their small family was complete. Even though an ocean separated her from her mom and brothers, she remained close to them. She, John and Michelle traveled there several times and she often brought her mom here. The two were very close. Her brothers also traveled to the US with their families as often as life allowed and for that, Marlies was so grateful. Marlies was a fantastic homemaker, actually a domestic engineer, and could host a party and cook a delicious meal without much notice. Her organizational skills were unsurpassed and her husband frequently told her that she could run a small country if she wanted to. She loved having people around. Marlies lived her life with purpose and she was definitely a mover and a shaker. In 1982, she relocated to Catskill, New York from the Bronx and it was an enormous change. She missed her friends that had become like family but she was determined to learn to enjoy country living. For years, she worked for the Friar Tuck Inn in differing roles from hostess to gift shop assistant. She loved being around people and took pride in every position that she held. She and John downsized and moved to Coxsackie to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. She stayed active in all of their lives and loved her new neighborhood. In 2003, she lost her loving husband, John, of nearly 42 years. She missed him consistently for the rest of her life. To ease her sadness, she began walking up to five miles per day and would sometimes take her loving grandson with her. She continued enjoying her neighborhood on foot. She also loved to drive and would not hesitate to take a trip to New Jersey to see her sisters-in-law. Marlies could also be found spending time with her daughter and grandchildren, enjoying Bingo at various locations, playing SkipBoo with her friends, shopping or walking. Marlies was invited to a local church by a neighbor who had become a friend. She found such love and comfort in the Gospel Community Church in Coxsackie. She was a member of the church for the rest of her life and attended as often as she could. The community welcomed her with open arms and remained by her side even as she became unable to attend. Many people helped Marlies as she aged and for that, her family is forever grateful. Marlies’ family would also like to thank the wonderfully caring nurses, nurse’s assistants and aides at The Pines of Catskill. In her final months, she was treated with such kindness and compassion. Marlies will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her outgoing personality, her hard-working nature and her ability to find adventure. She reminds us to fill your time on this Earth making close connections, doing nice things for others, and taking in all of life’s beauty. Marlies is survived by her daughter, Michelle Fisher, her son-in-law, Shawn Fisher, granddaughters Sara Gauthier (Dan), Amanda Niosi, her grandson, Jacob Fisher, her great- granddaughter, Emerson Gauthier, and her honorary granddaughter, Victoria Heneghan. She is also survived by her brother, Siegfried Meyer, her sisters-in-law, Erika Meyer and Carmella Tudda, her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends who have become like family. Besides her parents, Marlies is preceded in death by her loving husband John Tudda, her brother, Karlheinz Meyer, her nephew Dirk Meyer, her brothers-in-law, Joseph and Anthony Tudda, her sister-in law, Jennifer Tudda, her beautiful, beloved granddaughter, Katryn Fisher and her beloved grandson, the apple of her eye, Luke Niosi. Calling hours take place on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. -12:00 Noon at W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc., 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, N.Y., 12051. Services will follow at 12:00 Noon the same day at the funeral home, with Pastor Bart Heneghan of The Gospel Community Church, Coxsackie, N.Y. officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coxsackie, N.Y.
