William Max Metzler Sr.

William Max Metzler, Sr., age 88 years, went to be with the Lord surrounded by loved ones on July 1, 2022. Known to his family and friends as “Bill” he was born on March 5, 1934, in Mount Vernon, N.Y. to the late C. Fred and Susan (Urich) Metzler Besides his parents, bill is predeceased by his son Paul, daughter in law Donna, his brother Fred, and his sisters Claire Fisher and Mina Engelmann. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Kathleen (O’Connell) Metzler, son William, Jr., daughters Kathy and her husband Tony Pickston, Marie, Susan and husband Donnie Martin, lovingly known as Grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren and great grandfather to his ten great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Bill was a graduate and athlete of Cairo Central High School. He was a devout, faithful Christian and a lifelong communicant of The Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cairo, New York where he was an Elder and taught Adult Bible School. After retirement, you could always find Bill at Metzler’s Mill, where he loved sitting on his sawmill milling lumber. Among his many accomplishments are poultry Farmer, N.Y. S. Corrections Guard, Life Insurance Agent, Boy Scout Leader, Church Elder, Bible School Instructor, Sunday School Teacher, Ski Instructor and an avid woodsman. Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, small game hunting, nature and the great outdoors. However, the greatest attributes that defined and describes Bill was his faith, hope and love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his love of his fellowman, the church and his friends, his family and his beloved wife he called “My Kathleen”. Calling hours will be held at The Resurrection Lutheran Church, 186 Main Street, Cairo, New York, 12413, on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Funeral service will be held at the church at 11:00 A.M. the same day. Interment will follow at the family plot of The Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Resurrection Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 563, Cairo, New York, 12413.
