Catherine M. Free

Catherine “Cathy” Free of Tannersville, age 61, passed away suddenly on October 23rd, 2024, from a brief but short illness. She was born January 10th, 1963, in Queens, NY, to Mary Lynch and Robert R Free. Cathy was the third of four children: Robert T, Richard, and Patrick. Cathy spent more than half her life living in College Point or Flushing. She had three children whom she loved very much and was very proud of: Thomas Patrick O’Brien, Tina Marie Tarallo, and Peter Thomas Tarallo, who would’ve been 28 on Nov 2nd. She moved upstate in 2000 where she would spend the other majority of her life in Cairo. She also made friends at most every job she had. Making friends didn’t seem hard for Cathy, as she had a big personality and always wanted to try and make people laugh! She enjoyed going to concerts in her younger years, cooking, reading, movies, growing flowers (even though she liked to say she had a “black thumb” instead of green thumb). Cathy is predeceased by her son Peter, her brother Richard, and both her parents. She is survived and kept in memory by her brothers Robert and Patrick, her children, Tina and Thomas, Thomas’s wife Theresa, her children’s fathers, Patrick O’Brien and Angelo Tarallo, her Aunts Janet Furey, Patricia Sullivan, Kathleen “Sister Grace” Lynch, and Uncle Thomas Lynch. She is also survived by her nephews Robert “Little Bobby” Free, his son Robert “RJ” Free and Kevin Free; her niece Alison and her daughters Juliana and Isabella. There are also many cousins, other family members, and friends who will keep her memory safe and alive. Services will be celebrated at Richard’s Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, on Friday November 8th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is also a Celebration of Life that her family is having downstate that was originally for her son Peter but will now be for the both of them. Details about the Celebration can be given from either Thomas or Tina. In lieu of flowers, Mom loved her pets and did everything for them, so we ask if donations can be made to Greene County Animal Alliance at greenecountyanimalalliance.org so there can finally be an animal shelter in Greene County.
