Charles E. Lampman

Charles E. Lampman, “Charlie”, age 89 years, of Athens, N.Y. passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on May 13, 1934, in Catskill, N.Y., and is the son of the late Percy Ervine and Elise May (Davis) Lampman. Besides his parents, having grown up in a large and loving family, Charles is predeceased by his thirteen siblings – his brothers Vernon (Baby), Robert, Frederick, Wilfred, and his twin brothers Erwin and Ervine, his sisters Winifred, Betty, Esther, his twin sisters Elsie and Eleanor and recently Patricia. He is also predeceased by his great grandson Noah Lee Sangcap Lawrence. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years Macaria B. “Mercy” (Quijon) Lampman, his son Jeffrey E. Lampman and his wife Joellen, his daughter Linda C. (Lampman) Lawrence and her husband Rickie, his two brothers Walt Lampman and his wife Jane and Percy “Pete” Lampman. Charles is also survived by his three grandchildren Jennifer Lampman, Elizabeth Lawrence and her fiancé Nicholas and TSgt. Rickie L. Lawrence II and his wife Aimee, his five great grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Ajay, Kaleb Charles and Chloe, his expected great granddaughter due in February 2024, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Charles grew up on the family farm on Indian Ridge Road, Earlton, N.Y., and always enjoyed sharing memories of life on the farm of his parents and his siblings. Charles attended The Sandy Plains United Methodist Church since a child. He is a graduate of Cairo Central School, Class of 1953. Charles served his country proudly in The N.Y. Army National Guard from August 19, 1956 – November 30, 1961. Charlie, along with brothers Wilfred “Bill”, Erwin, Pete, and Walt worked together in their family company – E & W Lampman Builders for many years building homes in the local Greene County area. One would find it impossible to take a drive around South Cairo especially and not pass a home that the brothers built. Charles loved hunting, fishing, reading and listening to bible scriptures because of his great faith and upbringing. He loved listening to Country Music- especially Johnny Cash and Irish music. From a young age, Charles was able to play the harmonica and the accordion by ear, never reading sheet music. He loved beagles - especially his Samson and Lila. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a true example of what a husband, father, grandfather and brother should be. Rest in Peace, Dad. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 10:45 A.M. at The Round Top Cemetery, South Road, Round Top, N.Y., 12473, with his niece Annette’s husband Pastor Rick Snowden of The Community Life Church, Catskill, N.Y., officiating, followed by N.Y. Army National Guard military honors. The day of the graveside service, everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery.
