George L. Mansfield

George L. Mansfield September 21, 1932 - July 22, 2019 George "Big G" Mansfield, age 86, passed away peacefully early Monday July 22, 2019, at St. Peters Community Hospice after a brief courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 21, 1932 to the late Harriett (Hattie) and Louis G. Mansfield in New Baltimore, NY. Graduated 1950 from Coxsackie-Athens High School. Served in the US Navy 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He was a true patriot. Employed by Aerobuilt 1955-1958, Coxsackie Correctional Facility 1958-1984 where he also coached the basketball team, which earned him the nickname (Sgt. Hoss). Greene Correctional Facility 1984-1988 when he retired. George was a proud member of the Gospel Community Church and the local Senior Citizens where he also volunteered for meals on wheels. He was an avid lover of many sports including softball which he coached and played. Pitched until the age of 58. Starting with the good ole Rinky Dinks and ended with the Millious Construction Team. He was a loyal NY Giants and NY Yankees Fan and loved his boxing as much. George enjoyed life in many different ways, including his prized vegetable garden that he shared with so many people, fishing, swimming, riding his bike, going to Chrissy and Tim's diner every Saturday and the annual fair. In his younger days it was dancing, bowling and darts. George and Dolly enjoyed being snow birds in Florida for 30 years where he played boccie ball and horse shoes and enjoyed holidays with the relatives. George was the beloved husband of Drusiana (Dolly) Adamo Mansfield of 65 beautiful years. The devoted father of Lynne (Robert) Riccardo, Lorie (Paul) Devine and LeeAnn (Joseph) Crispo. Survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Predeceased by siblings, Bertha (Pete) and Ray Greene, Gladys (Red) and Wally Madden, Evelyn (Tootie) and Zadock VanKuren, Clarence (Red) Zimmer and Earnest (Buck) Zimmer. Special thanks to LeeAnn and Joe for spending the extra time with Dad. Donna L. Gianola (Numero Uno) for the extra TLC provided before and during his illness, to Donnie Hambley for fulfilling Dads requests, to AMC Cancer ward who treated him like a king and finally to St. Peter's Community Hospice that enabled him to exit this world with dignity, respect, love and comfort. Funeral services will take place on Saturday July 27, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. at The Gospel Community Church, Mansion Street, Coxsackie, N.Y. Interment will follow in the family plot of The St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Coxsackie, N.Y., with military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to The Gospel Community Church, Coxsackie, N.Y.
