George J. Wilk

George J. Wilk, age 92 years, longtime resident of Cairo, N.Y., passed away on December 23, 2018 at Greene Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Catskill, N.Y. He was born on February 4, 1926, in Purling, N.Y. and is the son of the late Joseph and Henrietta (Smith Wilk. Besides his parents, George is predeceased by his loving wife Theresa Wilk (Fischetti) who passed away on June 21, 2007, and his sister Josephine Wilk who passed away on October 22, 2012. Survivors include his daughter Patricia Spath (Mark), grandson Nicholas, and close companion of ten years Connie Hoffman. George proudly served his country in The United States Army, serving 14 months overseas during World War II in the Mariana Islands of Saipan and Tinian. During George’s lifetime, he was a realtor for Rip Van Winkle Realty, a was a former member of The National Board of Realtors and Greene and Columbia County Realtors. George retired from the N.Y.S. Thruway Authority after 32 years of service in the position of Toll Section Supervisor. George’s memberships included The Resurrection Lutheran Church, a member and past Master of Kedemah Masonic Lodge # 693 Cairo including being a member of the Lodge for over 70 years, life and charter member of The Greene County Shrine Club, Past President, Past Potentate Cyprus Temple 1994, member of The Albany Chapter # 48 the International Cabiri Past Potentate Association, Glencairn Council No. 14 Knights Masons USA, Cyprus Temple Shepherds (Past President), Cyprus Temple Hillbilly Clan, Royal Order of Jesters, Albany Court 77, Kachina Billiken Klub, Scottish Rite Valley of Albany, Albany York Rite College # 24, Lafayette Commandery # 7 K.T., Holy Royal Knight Templar Priests- Albany, NY, Member of Tall Cedar of Lebanon, Catskill Chapter # 285 RAM,- Past DDGHP (District Deputy Grand High Priest), Catskill Council # 78 R&SM-Past DDGM (District Deputy Grand Master), Ancient Temple Chapter # 5 Royal Arch Masons, Schenectady Shrine Club. Member of Catskill Silver Lining, Athens, and Rensselaerville Senior Citizen Groups, Life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Windham VFW 7220, Life Member of The American Legion Mohican Post 983 Cairo, N.Y. and he was also a member of CSEA-AFL Retirees #1000. George greatly loved and was proud to be a member of these organizations. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home,29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y. on Thursday, December 27,2018, from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at The Resurrection Lutheran Church, Routes 32 and 23 B, Cairo, N.Y. with Pastor Victor Nelson officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place, alongside his loving wife Theresa at The Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. at a future date, to be announced.
