Mary T. Hermann

Mary Theresa (Webster) Hermann, 98, of Acra, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 26, 2026, in the same house and room where she was born on October 9, 1927. Born to Ray and Theresa (Luedke) Webster of Acra, Mary had two brothers Raymond and Harold. She grew up on the family homestead that her father built nestled in the Catskill Mountains. Her childhood years were spent in a home full of love, laughter and music. Her father’s love for animals, especially horses, was part of her daily life. Mary also enjoyed spending time in Manhattan with her maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She would attend the theatre and take part in everything the city offered. Mary was a graduate of Cairo Central School where she met her husband of 67 years, Harry Hermann. They married in 1948 in Sacred Heart Church with her uncle, Monsignor Richard Luedke, officiating. Together Harry and Mary raised three children and enjoyed life to its fullest. Whether they were attending a family gathering, visiting with friends or sitting on the porch, they always found happiness in the simple joys of life. Mary was a wonderful listener and had a great sense of humor. Her quick wit and funny jokes made everyone smile and laugh. Spending time with family filled her with so much happiness. Mary was known for her delicious meals and baking to share around the table with pots of coffee. Harry’s employment moved them from Greene County to Rhode Island, to Illinois and to Baldwinsville, New York where they made many friends. Upon retirement, they returned to Acra. They were parishioners of the Sacred Heart Church. Mary was a member of the Cairo Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary. For many years, Harry and Mary could be found enjoying life in Round Top at the Mountain Brauhaus. Mary loved music and she instilled that love in her children and grandchildren. You could find her singing and dancing even on her last days. Mary is survived by her daughter, Claire Davenport (Peter) of North Kingstown, RI, her son, Rob Hermann of Liverpool, NY and daughter Marianne (Gary) Warner of Round Top, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeffrey (Maria), Susan (Sandy), Allison (Eric), Monica (Corey), Emily (Derek), Sophie (Alex), Gavin and Drew. Mary was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, her grandson, Matthew Davenport (Megan), her parents and brothers. Please remember Mary with a smile, laugh and song - just as she lived her beautifully long and happy life. I’ll see you in my dreams. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family on Wednesday Sept. 2 from 10:00 am-11:30 at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street in Cairo A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Wednesday Sept. 2 at 12:00 noon at the Sacred Heart Church in Cairo.
