Peter Wolf

Peter Wolf, 86, of Cairo, NY peacefully passed away with his wife by his side on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Peter was born in Hinterberg, Yugoslavia on July 15, 1937. He was the son of the late Peter Wolf, Sr. and Paula (Gerbitz) Wolf. He received his primary and secondary education and woodworking and cabinet-making apprenticeship in Graz, Austria. Peter immigrated to the United States with his family at age 15 and eventually settled in Maspeth, NY in Queens. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and took courses at the Pratt Institute. He worked for Emory-Roth & Sons Architects in Manhattan. Peter married Edwina Kolacki in 1960 and together they raised 3 children. They built a house upstate in Greene County and moved to Cairo, NY in 1972. Peter was an architectural draftsman and project manager and worked in different architectural firms within the Capital District. He worked for the architectural firms of Einhorn, Yaffe, & Prescott for 10 years and then for Collins and Scoville. He retired from C-S Arch in 2003 but continued to do consulting work for them until he fully retired in 2006. Peter enjoyed everything about architecture and construction and accrued a vast amount of knowledge and expertise throughout his many years in that business. The “crown jewel” of his many architectural projects was the 20 years he worked on the New York State Education Building. He knew every nook & cranny of that magnificent building. Peter was widowed in 1980 when Edwina died from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In 1982, he was remarried to Karen Powles. Together, they built a new life and remained committed to one another for 41 years. They enjoyed their trips to Europe and annual summer vacations at Cape Cod, MA. Peter is survived by his wife, Karen, his sister, Frieda Schindler, and his three children, Elizabeth Catalfamo (Ronnie) of Elloree, SC, Joellen Wolf of Matthews, NC, and Erik (Michelle) Wolf of Monroe, NC. Peter leaves behind 10 grandchildren to cherish his memory including Matthew, Gregory, and Danielle Catalfamo, Chloe, Maxwell, and Vincent Sayles, Brendan, Grayson, Dillon, and Alora Wolf. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services are planned for Saturday, September 9, 2023 at The Resurrection Lutheran Church, 186 Main Street in Cairo, NY, 12413. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. -11:00 A.M., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. the church.
