A matriarch is defined as the head of the family. What lacks the definition of a matriarch is the strength, wisdom and heart that woman must possess. God called a great woman home. Despite any flaws, or the endless amount of sarcasm she had ready at any given time, her strength, heart, and wisdom were unquestionable. We are all left with a hole to fill, despite knowing that she’s in a place with no more suffering. Thank you for everything you did for me growing up. I love you, Gram. It is with great sadness we announce that after months of failing health, the passing of Sharon M. (Vaughn) Phillips, of Hannacroix, N.Y., who peacefully passed away at the age of 78 years, on Wednesday December 7, 2022, at her home surrounded by her two Daughters Joanne C. (Phillips) Lockwood and Gerri Ann (Phillips) Rockwood and also her two beloved companion cats, Butter and Biscuit, whom we must not leave out. Sharon was born on April 9, 1944, in Glens Falls, New York where she lived her entire life until she recently became ill and moved in with her daughters, JoAnne and Gerri. Sharon was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, g-ma, aunt, and friend who had the most beautiful smile that could light up a soul. She brightened every single person she encountered. If you were lucky enough to be present when she gazed into her great grandchildren’s faces, the pure joy radiating from her would blind you. She wanted nothing more than for them to have a wonderful life. As a very young woman she learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support herself and her children. Even when times were difficult, she still managed to find a way. A woman who even in her final days would say “it’s never I love you goodbye, It’s I love you later.” Besides her parents Charles and Helen Vaughn, Sharon was predeceased by her daughter Denise Phillips (Oudekerk) and her son Edward Phillips (T-Joe), her brother Paul Vaughn and her great granddaughter AnneMarie Claire Sawn. Sharon is survived by her daughters Barbara Durham, Sherri Guida, JoAnne Lockwood (Scott Hosier SR), Gerri Rockwood; her son Joseph Phillips (Carrie Phillips); 17 Grandchildren; 29 Great grandchildren; her sweet sister-in-law Sandy Vaughn; along with her nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and extended family near and far. She was lovingly remembered by her charismatic sarcasm, her line of bingo dabbers at her private table at American Legion in Hudson Falls and her hand-held game of Yahtzee. Sharon spent a lot of her fondest memories always taking her grandchildren to the Washington County Fair. Her grandchildren/great grandchildren will remember more than anything there will always be a butterscotch/mint at the bottom of her purse for them. I ached and yearned for that imaginary place, the one which I could breathe. Now I sit here with God, with Nature, beauty, and astounding light; and now I feel like I can finally BREATHE! A celebration of Sharon’s life for her family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. the home of her daughters in Hannacroix, N.Y. There will also be a gathering in Sharon’s memory in her hometown in Glens Falls, N.Y. to be announced. As per Sharon’s wishes, there will be no calling hours, and a private cremation took place.
