Theresé A. Foy

During the early hours of December 10, 2025, Therese' A. Foy's time on earth came to an end but her eternal journey with her loving God continues on in glory. Therese' (Terry) is survived by her daughter, Patricia Vandenburg, son, Scott McNair and predeceased by her loving husband Phil and cherished son Robert. Terry has 6 grandchildren, Lauren, Kimberly, Therese' (Meagan), Scott Jonathan (SJ), Jade, Phillip and a great grandson Dean. Terry was the last surviving member of the O'Neill siblings; her brother Patrick (Uncle Paddy) and her sister Lucille (Aunt Lou). Terry was a loving and heroic daughter, mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She was a courageous single mother during decades, 1960's-1980's, when being a single mom was both frowned upon and unsupported by many in society and government. Terry worked long hours and multiple jobs at the same time to ensure that her children's basic needs were met. Some of her many jobs included being a secretary for a local newspaper in the Bronx, as a waitress at both Roosevelt and Yonkers Raceways, Real Estate Broker, Nursing Home Aid and a Waitress at the Rocky Point Diner. The job that most reflected Terry's core values and the one that meant the most to her was being the manager of two homes for the mentally, emotionally and physically handicapped for the Greene County ARC One of these women, Lois, who was severely mentally handicapped came to live with Terry and her husband Phil, and became their daughter until she passed. Because of Terry's work with Lois, she wrote a proposal, presented to the State and they used this to create a State-run program to give people like Lois a better life. Terry was a "mom" to many and her home on Long Island became a haven to many of her children's friends who were going through hard times in their lives. Often you would find a house full of teens having meals together, dancing, having holiday parties and sleeping over. Some of whom would live at the house for varying length of times. She had a great propensity to be fun, crazy, wild, supportive, understanding and loving. A neighbor once asked Terry how many children she had and Terry responded, "I don't know, I didn't count today"! Terry was born in Manhattan, grew up on 116th Street and Pleasant Ave in East Harlem and then moved to Ellis Ave in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. To say Terry was tough was an understatement, and she passed that toughness onto her three children which served/serves them well when dealing with life's challenges. Terry's toughness could be seen during the final stages of her life as she faced many painful and debilitating physical ailments with grace, dignity, humor and her mantra, "It could always be worse". Terry in her later years in life would end all her conversations by saying, "Peace within to you and yours" and this was a reflection of her desire to see others find peace in all circumstances. This had such an impact on her grandson SJ that he had it tattooed on his wrist as a way to honor and remember his grandma. Terry's kindness, generosity and love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who knew her. A life that touches others goes on forever and Terry's life will continue live on in our hearts.
