Berneith Adeline Baumberger (nee Siemonsma), 93, of Round Top, New York, died peacefully March 18, 2016, at her home with her family at her side. Her death came after several years of enduring failing health and heart disease. Born October 30, 1922, in Rock Valley, Iowa, Mrs. Baumberger was the daughter of the late Bernard and Dora (Van Whye) Siemonsma, and was the eldest of five children. She graduated from Rock Valley High School and later moved to Colton, South Dakota, with her family. She attended business school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and prior to her marriage worked as a secretary for John Morrell & Company in Sioux Falls. She married Verner John Baumberger on April 8, 1947, in Huntimer, South Dakota, and shared sixty years of marriage with him before his death on July 4, 2007. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Baumberger dedicated herself to her family and to her traditional Catholic faith, the cornerstones of her life. To her family and to all who have known her she bequeaths an example of a gracious spirit characterized by steadfast patience and valiant fortitude. Requiescat in pace. Mrs. Baumberger is survived by her children Mary Berger (Joseph) of Round Top, NY, Joseph (Irma) of Fort Morgan, CO, Anne of Round Top, and Father Paul Baumberger of Oyster Bay Cove, NY; grandchildren Jakob Berger of Bennett, CO, and Christina Harris (Matthew) of Fort Morgan, CO; great-grandchildren Genevieve, Philomena, Susanna, William, and Vincent Harris; brother James Siemonsma (Mary Jo), sister-in-law Magdalen Siemonsma, brother-in-law Fritz Eichler, and sister-in-law Dorothy Baumberger; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband and her parents, Mrs. Baumberger was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Robert (Henrietta), and her sister Mary Alice Eichler. Relatives and friends may call at Richard’s Funeral Home, Cairo, New York, between 6 and 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 20. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 8 p.m. during the visiting hours. A Solemn Requiem High Mass will be offered for the repose of Mrs. Baumberger’s soul on Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, St. Joseph’s Novitiate, Round Top, with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius V School, 18 Old East Neck Road, Melville, NY 11747 or to Immaculate Heart Seminary, P.O. Box 56, Round Top, NY 12473.
