George Edward Pine “Beloved Father, Farmer and Retired Operating Engineer Local 106 Albany” George E. Pine, 83, of South Cairo, NY, entered eternal life on March 21, 2015, after a long illness. He was born on August 30, 1931 to the late George A. and Dorothy C. (Fischer) Pine. He is predeceased by his brother Albert C. Pine and granddaughter Venessa Pine. Survivors include his wife Edith Pine of Margretville, NY, brother James (Sharon) Pine of Catskill, NY, by his five children James Pine, William (Nancy) Pine, Diane (Raymond) Berg, Edward (Gayle) Pine, Dawn (Robert) Suttmeier, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren Dorothylee Berg and children Mykal and Cheyenne, George (Joann) Berg and children Ryley and Tanner, Jeffrey Berg, Alan (Brittany) Berg, Rebecca and William Pine and Edward Pine. He is also survived by stepchildren Larry Barlow, Linda Steffen and Samerna Rion, dear friend Elizabeth Ellet and several nieces, nephews and cousins. George graduated from Cairo Central School-Class of 1949. He served in The US Army. He retired after 60 years with Operating Engineers Local 106 Albany where he specialized in crane operation. Life member and past chief of The Cairo Hose Co. Upon retiring he fulfilled his lifelong passion of farming. He was happiest when on his tractor growing his crops and tending to his flock of sheep. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, NY on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Cairo Hose Company will hold services in his memory at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 6:45 PM. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Retta Lykens, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in the family plot of The Cairo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center Inc., 10846 Route 23 A, Hunter, NY, 12442.
