Mr. Herman J. Bauer

Herman J. Bauer, age 100 years, of Coxsackie,NY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 18, 2016, at Albany Medical Center. Herman was born in Otterbach, German on January 1, 1916 to parents Olga and Richard F. Bauer. Herman is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Anna C. Bauer, his son Richard F. Bauer, his son in law James Nolan, his sisters Ernestine Schnare, Madeline Coulbourn, Ruth Harter,and Wilhelmina Finley, and his brothers Wolfgang Bauer and Walter Bauer. Survivors include his 3 children: Anita Nolan, Herman C. (Mary) Bauer, and daughter in law Sumrieng Bauer; 8 grandchildren: Brent (Tricina) Nolan, Bryan (Laurie) Nolan, Brady (Laura) Nolan, Brooke (Matt) Nolan-Hellstern, Alecia (Brett) Bauer-Sears, Christopher (Julia) Bauer, Richard P. (Angelique) Bauer, and Sandra (Gary) Bauer-O'Pry; 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Herman was employed by General Electric in Schenectady, NY for 26 years. He retired from General Electric in 1978. Prior to his employment with General Electric he was employed by the American Valve Co. and Remmington Arms. He was a long time member of the Second Reformed Church in Coxsackie, where he was an active member of the choir. Herman was also a member of the Catskill Men's Glee Club, the Steuben Society and the Steuben Glee Club until it dissolved. He enjoyed working with wood and making clocks and picture frames. Herman's passion however was farming. He was a farmer at heart and loved having a garden and tending to his apple trees. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a memorial service in Herman's memory which will take place on October 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Second Reformed Church, Washington Avenue, Coxsackie, NY, with the Rev. Pastor Carolyn Lewis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Herman's memory to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, Va 22312 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
