Mr. Horace Leslie Bower

Horace Leslie Bower, of Cairo, passed away on September 28, 2015 at the age of 98 years. He was born on October 6, 1916, in Staten Island, NY, and is the son of the late Emil and Jessie (Haughwout) Bower. Survivors include his beloved wife Katherine of 73 years, children Kathy Ann Mati, George L. Bower and Joan Dibert of New Jersey, grandchildren Lesly Collings of Scotland, George S. Bower of Virgina, great grandchildren Zara and Erin Collings of Scotland, daughter in law Margaret Flanngan of Scotland. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Earl Bower and sister Evelyn DuBree. Horace retired after 36 years with the U.S. Defense Dept. Fort Monnarouth, NJ, past member of Richmond County Sheriffs Mounted Posse, Staten Island, NY, past commodore of Keyport Yacht Club, Keyport N.J., past commander U.S. Coast Guard in New Jersey, member and trustee of The Kedemah Masonic Lodge, Cairo, NY, member of the Scottish Rite in Albany, NY, past president of The Greene County Shriner’s Club, life member of the National Ass. Retired Federal Employers. He enjoyed playing his organ, working in his wood shop, his two boats and motor homes. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, NY, on Thursday October 1, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The Kedemah Masonic Lodge of Cairo, of which Horace was a longtime member, will hold services in his memory at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Retta Lykens, Pastor officiating.
