Mr. Joseph C. Turner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joseph C. Turner, 82, passed away on Sunday October 8, 2017, at Green Meadows in Catskill, N.Y. He was born in the Bronx on January 27, 1935. Joe was the son of the late Mary and Joseph (Lloyd) Turner. Joe was predeceased by his sisters Marge and Gertrude, his brother Charley, his brother-in-laws Larry and George, his former wife Josephine and his daughter Joanne. Joe or “J” as he was known by many is survived by his wife Dora of 36 years and her two sons Michael and Richard Henry and their families both of Round Top, N.Y. Joe was a member of the local 282 teamsters in New York City and worked for Civetta and Sons in the Bronx, Becker Electronics in east Durham, The Town of Cairo Highway Dept., and P.Sala and Sons of Cairo. Joe proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. and the Naval Reserves. He was also a member of The Mountaintop Marine Corp. League, The American Legion Mohican Post 983 of Cairo, and the Amvets post #2004 of Greene County. For many years Joe and Bob Rose coordinated the Marine Corp. League Toys for Tots program, making sure needy children received a present for Christmas. Joe was always there to help with veteran’s affairs and projects. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y. on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. The American Legion Post # 983 Cairo, will conduct services at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the family plot of The Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, N.Y. with military honors being conducted by The N.Y.S. Military Forces Honor Guard and The American Legion Post # 983 Cairo.
