Leonard Asaro, age 79 years, of New Jersey, passed away on November 9, 2014, at Meridian Nursing Home and Rehabilitation at Brick, NJ, following a brief illness. He was born on March 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, and is the son of the late Fortunato and Rose (Marotta) Asaro. He met his wife at age 16 and they were married on June 11, 1955 in Holy Family Church in Canaresie Brooklyn. They enjoyed many years of travelling around the world with friends and family, be it a cruise or by air. He also enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to swim and enjoy the pool. He made many friends working at Shop Rite, the Durham School, and also cooked many meals at Pollace’s Crystal Palace in Catskill that was enjoyed by many. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Grace (Berniaz) Asaro, his two sons Leonard F. Asaro and his wife Patricia (Mower) Asaro, and Joseph A. Asaro and his wife Ellen (Magasic) Asaro, five grandchildren Amanda Asaro-Deyo who is married to Michael Deyo who is considered a grandson by the family, Lenee Asaro, Dr. Joseph Asaro, Jr. DO, Christina Asaro, three great grandchildren Madison, twins Emma and Lily Deyo. He is also survived by his sister Michelina Asaro and his brother Pasquale Asaro and their families. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, NY, on Thursday, November 13,2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM . Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 14, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, Cairo, with Fr. Michael Flannery officiating.
