Marie A. Zastenchik

Our Precious Mother, Marie Ann Zastenchik, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on January 22, 2022, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, New York, after a brief illness. She was born on March 26, 1932, in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and is the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Law) Payne. Survivors include three sons Steve Zastenchik (Tonka) Somers of N.Y., Bill (Gerri) Zastenchik of Mahopac, N.Y., and Dave Zastenchik (Audrey) of Lagrangeville, N.Y., and grandchildren Steven Zastenchik, Joe Zastenchik, Kimberly Flynn, Gregory Zastenchik, David Zastenchik and Michael Zastenchik, and her great grandchildren Nicholas, Emma Marie, and Emmie Juliette. During Marie’s lifetime, she was a homemaker and mother, but enjoyed working at Phelps Hospital in Tarrytown, N.Y. for several years. Marie was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a stay at home mom most of her life, Marie devoted her life to her children. Anyone who knew them, knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her. The family would spend weekends and holidays at the Cabin in the Catskills where they were most happy enjoying life in the country. She loved to cook for her family after full days of hunting and fishing and was right along with them enjoying the outdoors. Marie adored her grandchildren and recently became a great grandmother, knitting and crocheting, one of her hobbies, that will be cherished by all. We will always carry your memories in our hearts and continue to say “whatstodo” when life throws us punches, smile and move on. “As we look upon her picture, Sweet memories we recall, Of a face so full of sunshine, And a smile for one and all.” Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. , with funeral services taking place the same day at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Snowden of The Community Life Church, Catskill , N.Y. officiating. Face masks will be required to be worn at all times while at the funeral home, regardless of vaccination status and for those who are unvaccinated, for everyone’s protection, per N.Y.S. Health Dept. and The Gr. Co. Health Department’s guidelines. Interment will take place in the springtime of 2022 in the family plot of The Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, N.Y.
