Mr. William H. Jackson

William H. Jackson, Sr., a lifetime area resident, age 89 years, of Catskill, NY, passed away on August 16, 2014, at The Stratton VA Medical Center, Albany, NY. He was born on April 11, 1925, in Catskill, NY and is the son of the late William J. and Mabel (Jeune) Jackson. William proudly served his country in The 35th Infantry Division of The US Army during WWII, serving in Europe, served in the Battle of The Bulge, he was an X Prisoner of War. William was a recipient of The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, a Life Member of The American Legion, a Life Member VFW of Catskill, a Life Member of The Disabled American Vets, past member of The Morton Fire Co. He loved camping, hiking, traveling and reading. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Helen (Palmateer) Jackson, his sister Thelma Randall, and his grandson Andrew Dougherty. Survivors include his sons William Jackson Jr. (Pat) of Round Top, Timothy L. Jackson (Gail) of Catskill, and David P. Jackson and his companion Sharon of Catskill, his daughters Carol A. Rieker (James) of Connelly, NY, Susan M. Dougherty (Andrew) of Coxsackie, and Cissy M. Sanson of South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Ploubet of Rome, NY, 24 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home, 28 N. Vernon St. Athens, NY, on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 1:00 P.M.
