Arline B. Mickle

Arline Borfitz Mickle Arline passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday October 23, 2023. Arline was born in Catskill NY on March 25, 1936 to Harmon B Borfitz and M Helen Winfield. She was raised in Ballston Spa, Kingston, and Athens NY. Arline was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Byron Strobel, grandson Aaron Gotebiowski, nephew James Palmateer, niece Sharon Van Nostrand, and her sister in law Kathryn Palmateer. Arline is survived by her husband of 68 years Edward W Mickle, her daughter Diane L Mickle (John Gotebiowski) of Catskill NY, son Edward J "Duke" Mickle (Diane Del Chiaro) of Manchester TN, her brother Harmon Borfitz (Michael) of The Villages FL. Also grandson Edward D Mickle (Victoria) of Tullahoma TN, granddaughter Jennifer L Martinez (Joe) of Jacksonville FL, Kristin Gotebiowski (Ashley) of Niskayuna NY, great grandchildren Olivia and Wesley, nieces Nancy Hausheer, Susan Cotter, Deborah Borfitz, Tammy Hughes, Sharon S Palmateer, and nephews Tim Borfitz, Jared and Jason Hughes. Arline was a dedicated member and former consistory member of the First Reformed Church of Athens for 69 years and was a member of the choir for many years. Arline's church community was important in her life. Arline was a devoted wife and mother, loyal friend and member of the AFD WC Brady Auxiliary, long-time member of the Sunny Hill "Loose-Ladies" golf league, and a past member of the Athens Garden Club and Rivertown Senior Apartments Board of Directors. She worked in the education system for 30 years and retired from the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District Office in the mid-1990s. Ed and Arline enjoyed traveling, especially to spend time with family in Arizona, Tennessee, and Florida. She looked forward to reunions with her Borfitz family, and enjoyed celebrating life with those around her. Arline greeted all with a smile, and was known for her generosity and welcoming spirit. She could often be found sitting on her front porch during little league season, and enjoyed all who stopped to visit. Her strength and tenacity were evident until the end. For those wishing to pay their respects, visitation will be Thursday, October 26, from 12 to 2 pm at the First Reformed Church, 18 N. Church Street, Athens, NY, with a service immediately following. Interment will be in the Old Athens Rural Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Community Hospice and the Eddy Visiting Nurse and Rehab Association for the dedicated and compassionate staff that provided care for Arline.
