Arthur Paul Kisselburg Sr.

Arthur P. Kisselburg Sr, affectionately known as “Kip,” age 91, of Athens, New York, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. Arthur was born at Catskill Hospital and raised in Athens, NY, the son of Paul and Marion (Harrington) Kisselburg. At the age of 16 he met the love of his life, Mary Craw, on a bus ride home from the Catskill movie theater. They were married April 26, 1953 and raised their 5 children on the same street he grew up on. He spent his life as a proud member of the community. From 1952 to 1958, he served in the National Guard (CO "A" 134th ARMED MED BN 27 INF DIVISION NY.NG) demonstrating his commitment to his country. Arthur had a long and dedicated working career. He began working at Frangella Bros. in Ravena from 1951 to 1955. He then worked as a painter at Grumman/Olson in Athens from 1955 until the plant closed in 1981. Following that, he worked at KAZ in Hudson from 1982 until his retirement in 1998. Throughout his life, Arthur was active in local sportsman and outdoor organizations. He was a member of the Athens Sportsman Club during the 1950s and later joined the Potic Mountain Archery Club from 1957 to 1960, where he enjoyed archery and the camaraderie of fellow outdoorsmen. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Arthur took great pride in his home and the life he built in the community where he was born and raised. Arthur also devoted many years of service to his community as a member of the W. H. Morton Volunteer Fire Department from 1968 to 1985. His time with the department reflected his dedication to helping others and protecting the community he loved. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, and lifelong connection to Athens. Arthur is survived by his children, Arthur (Tina) Kisselburg Jr., Bonnie Van Wie, Mary Lou Kisselburg, and Lori (Ray) Williams; his grandchildren, Megan Bratton, Kayla Sheil, Carleen Moore, Brittany Williams, Brandon Williams, Hope Williams, and Adriana Risch; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary (Craw) Kisselburg; his daughter, Wendy Risch; and his sisters, Madeline “Maggy” Kohler, Pauline (Phil) Mateer, and Lois (George) Kusisto. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at W.C. Brady’s Sons Funeral Home in Coxsackie. Burial will follow immediately afterward at Athens Rural Cemetery on Olivett Lane in Athens. Following the services, family and friends are invited to gather at the Athens Fire House on Third Street.
