Barbara A. Austin

Barbara A. Austin, 87, a longtime resident of Glenco Mills, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6th, 2023 at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Born on November 15, 1935, in Catskill, NY, she was the daughter of the late Verceil (Teal) and Josephine Rose. Barbara married the love of her life, Gerald (Skip) Austin on December 6,1954 at Sacred Heart Church in Cairo NY. Barbara was known for her friendliness, poise and wit. Her greatest loves were her family and friends. Everyone who met her always said "such a lovely person". And lovely she was. Upon her retirement from the office of Dr. Sandy Ullman in Hudson, she enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling. In 2022, she moved from her home in Glenco Mills, NY to Brookmeade Nursing Home (aka The Baptist Home) in Rhinebeck, NY. There she quickly made new friends amongst the residents and staff. She was a member of the Brookmeade Choir and had recently enjoyed singing in a July 4th concert. She is survived by her loving children, Nancy Austin (Marc), Red Hook NY, David Austin (Kathy), Cherryville, NC, Sue Arnett (David) Valatie, NY, and Patricia Austin, Hudson, NY, her grandchildren, Katie Bogdanffy, Hallie Bogdanffy (Jesse), Justin Bogdanffy (Mary), Austin L. Carrothers, Emily Sestito ( Nick), Molly Arnett, Zachery Austin along with 10 beautiful great grandchildren. Her sister-in-law, Nellie M. Clark resides in Hastings, NY. Barbara is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother, Robert Rose of Cairo, NY, predeceased her. Interment will be at Round Top Cemetery, next to her beloved husband Skip. The graveside service will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y., 12413. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to all the nurses, nurses aids and event staff for the genuine kindness and love extended to their wonderful Mom and Grammie. Barbara felt safe and happy at Brookmeade and would always comment on the respect, gentleness and care she received there.
