Betty J. Anable

Betty J. Anable, of Coxsackie, NY, passed away on April 28, 2026. Born on August 1, 1941 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rueben White and Alice VanWie (formerly White, nee Deyo). Betty graduated from Coxsackie-Athens high school in 1959. She was married to Richard E. Anable on November 6, 1960. Following high school graduation, Betty began a career as a secretary, working in Albany. After the birth of her second child, she chose to remain at home to raise her children. She later returned to the workforce, first working at the Kraus Dress Factory and then at American Tree and Wreath. When the opportunity presented itself, she took a secretarial position at Greene Correctional Facility. She later went on to work in the cash office at Ames Department Store in Glenmont, NY. Lastly, she was a teller at Greene County Bank in Coxsackie, from where she eventually retired. Betty participated in an assortment of activities and hobbies over the years, starting with drum corps, where she met her future husband. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary for D.M. Hamilton Steamer Co. #2, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Red Hat Society. Betty enjoyed bowling, crocheting, ceramics, and playing in pool league. She loved to read, play Yahtzee, and travel. She especially enjoyed going to the beach and to the casino. She was an avid Elvis fan. Betty loved holidays and special occasions, with Christmas being her favorite. She had a huge heart, a good sense of humor, and was kind to everyone. Above all else, Betty was extremely proud of her daughters, often saying they were her greatest accomplishment. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sandra Anable and Angela (John) Wanish; siblings, David (Kathleen Dierdorf) White, Jerry (Terry Perry) White and Regina (Glen) Pugh; cousins, Paul (Linda) Pflieger, Wayne (Louise) Deyo; nephew, Earl K. (Kim) Hotaling; additional nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and her special friend Richard Bopp. In addition to her parents, Reuben, Alice and Charles VanWie, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Richard; infant daughter, Allison; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Earl (Ike) Hotaling; and brother, Leroy (Butch) VanWie. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 5 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Brady’s Funeral Home, 97 Mansion St. Coxsackie, NY. A celebration of Betty's life will take place at the funeral home at 12 noon. Interment will take place next to her beloved Richard in Colleburgh/Lime Street Cemetery on Green Lake Rd. in Athens.
