Edward Michael Briggs

Edward M. Briggs Edward Michael Briggs, known to all as Eddie or Uncle, passed away on July 15, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born on April 15, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY. Eddie worked in Albany for the Office of General Services at the NYS Plaza in the Maintenance Department for a number of years. He then transferred to the Department of Military and Naval Affairs first at the Leeds Armory and then transferred to the Newburgh Armory until his retirement. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE 4446, American Legion Post #79. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything to do with cars and heavy equipment. He also enjoyed spending time at his local watering holes where he would have a beer, socialize and tell his many stories bringing laughter to all that listened. He was a friend to all and was loved by many, young and old. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia M. Briggs (William Lamb) East Greenbush, NY and Newport Richey, Florida, and Maureen Ricci (Laurence) Freehold, NY; half-brother, Ernest A. Briggs, Gilbert, Arizona; nephews, Joseph E. Vriale (Barbara) Leeds, NY, Ryan P. Ricci (Tracy) Greenville, NY; niece, Dr. Erin E. Ricci (Dan Nolan) and great- nephew Jack McKenzie Nolan, Saranac Lake, NY and many more nephews, nieces and cousins. His little buddy, Ezekiel Dixson, Albany, NY who Edward mentored as his own son. Eddie was predeceased by his father, Ernest A. Briggs, and his mother, Emily (O’Brien) Briggs, South Cairo, NY; brother, baby Joseph Briggs, South Cairo, NY; godson Darren L. Ricci, Freehold, NY; niece, Lisa M. Corratti, Rensselaer, NY and his half-brother, James Briggs, of Albany, Oregon. Calling hours take place on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Richards Funeral Home of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Inc., 29 Bross Street, Cairo, NY 12413. Services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM also at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at the Brigg’s family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, in Catskill, NY.
