Frances Monica Langley “Fran, Franny, Mommy, Grams” Frances Monica Langley, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 67 years, of Purling, N.Y. passed away peacefully on November 5, 2022, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, N.Y. Frances was born on February 5, 1955, in Queens, N.Y., and is the daughter of the late Rocco and Evelyn (Barreiro) DeVito. Besides her parents, Frances is predeceased by her sister Martha LoBello. Survivors include her loving husband of 37 years Gary Langley, son Michael C. Flaherty and his wife Eva, daughter Lauren M. (Flaherty) Law and her husband Tim, daughter Danielle N. (Langley) McKeon and her husband David, brother Rocco DeVito Jr., her sister Denise Burken, and her cherished grandchildren Nicole Flaherty, Grace Flaherty and Eleanora McKeon. Fran loved life, her husband, children, grandchildren, her family and friends unconditionally. She was a beautiful empathic soul inside and out. Her beauty and infectious laugh could light up a room. She was also hilarious, had a few of her own quirks and could be a bit ditsy in the most endearing way at times. She took immense pride in being put together at all times, up until her last day on earth she made sure that “her face” was on and her hair was done. In her younger years she was a trained hairdresser and was the only person who cut her husband’s hair over the last roughly 40 years. You could find them in the kitchen chatting back and forth listening to music every few weeks without fail. He was her Johnny Cash and she his June Carter. Fran spent a time as a hospice caretaker, where she utilized those skills to ensure elderly women felt good about themselves in their last days on this earthly plain. She prided herself in her fabulous cooking skill. It was also a way that she showed love, you never left her home hungry. Her motto was the kids will learn to cook when they could reach the stove (even if that required a chair to assist said reach), that there was always room for another person at the table and always enough food for more. Family dinners were essential in her household, she loved cooking while listening to music which was another great passion in her life. The radio was always humming with her singing along to anything from the Beatles, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor to Madonna and the Mamas and the Papas. Sometimes she’d stop suddenly to listen and remark “oh you hear that, that’s Carol King” and go on to tell story, a memory of an experience from the past. In her last weeks of life she listened to her favorite songs in the hospital with her family by her side and dictated some of her famous recipes to her granddaughter Grace to ensure they lived on, while Nicole made sure her hair looked beautiful. She loved to garden and could be found puttering around the property (her own words) planting various flowers with her grandchildren and her beloved cockapoo Red. This could go on forever, there aren’t enough words to convey the person that she was or do justice to the light that she shown so we’ll leave you with this, her greatest pride… She was the rock of the family that she built, there is no such thing as fighting in her family, no grudges are to be held, you show up for one another, love one another, break bread, pick up the phone, spend time together, and be the village that it takes. She left knowing that it was ok to go, she could stop fighting, we’ll take it from here with a piece of our hearts forever gone. Rest in Paradise our dear sweet Wife, Mommy and Grams. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at The Sacred Heart Church, 35 Church Street, Cairo, N.Y.
