Julia "Judy" Latorraca

Julia “Judy” Jean Latorraca, 88, of Catskill, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 12, 1938. Judy was a beautiful soul whose life was filled with love, faith, family, and joy. She had a special gift for finding happiness in the simplest moments and had a way of bringing light and warmth wherever she went. She loved to dance, laugh, celebrate life, and spend time with the people she loved. Above all, Judy loved the Lord. Her faith was at the very heart of her life. She was devoted to God and found great comfort, strength, and joy in her relationship with Him. She loved praising the Lord and being in His presence, and her faith remained a source of hope and peace throughout her life. She was a longtime and devoted member of Community Life Church, where she worshiped and shared her love of the Lord with her church family. Judy’s faith was not only something she carried in her heart, but something she shared through the love and kindness she showed to others. She believed in the goodness of God and found reasons to be thankful even in difficult times. Her joyful spirit, her love of worship, and her unwavering devotion to the Lord will remain a beautiful part of the legacy she leaves behind. Judy is survived by her son, John (Camille) Latorraca; son-in-law, Elwood Van Tassel; granddaughters, Jessica Irwin, Theresa (Jermaine) Edmond, and Brandi Latorraca; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Elijah, Ava, Johanna, Jason, Sadie, Amirah, Jermaine, and Aleena. She also leaves behind a very special niece, Tammy Bennett, who held a dear place in her heart, along with many other beloved nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will carry cherished memories of her with them. In addition to her husband, Dominick Latorraca, Judy was predeceased by her daughters, Patty and Theresa. To her family, Judy was so much more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a source of love, encouragement, laughter, and faith. She leaves behind memories that will be treasured for generations—the sound of her laughter, her love of dancing, her joyful spirit, and most of all, the love she poured into her family. Though her family’s hearts are heavy with the loss of such a special woman, they can find comfort knowing that Judy’s earthly journey is complete and that she is now resting in the arms of the Lord she loved and worshiped so faithfully. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has gone home to be with Jesus, where there is no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more tears. Her beautiful spirit and unwavering faith will continue to live on through the family she loved so dearly. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23 Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday September 15 from 10:00-12:00 at the W.C. Brady's Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street in Coxsackie. A celebration of Judy's life will take place at 11:45 at the funeral home with Pastor Snowden officiating. Interment will take place in New Athens Rural Cemetery in Athens.
