“The Gypsy King” Born August 20, 1961, in Kingston, New York With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a man whose life was defined by resilience, love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. Born in Kingston, New York, on August 20, 1961, he was raised on a family farm alongside his eight siblings. Growing up surrounded by horses and the beauty of the countryside helped shape the hardworking, determined man he would become. He attended Mount Upton School and was deeply proud of his Romanichal heritage, a pride he carried with him throughout his life. He had an incredible work ethic and found his greatest joy working alongside family. Whether at work or at home, he believed in providing for those he loved and creating a life filled with meaningful experiences. He enjoyed traveling, dining at fine restaurants, living life with comfort and style, collecting antiques, and giving thoughtful gifts to others. One of his greatest companions was his beloved dog which he called his daughter, Gypsy, who brought him years of happiness. He was first married to Donna, and together they built a beautiful family. Through life’s mountains and valleys, they shared many cherished years together in the Catskills. Although their paths eventually changed, life came full circle, and they remained close friends. Donna stood faithfully beside him during many of his illnesses, offering kindness, friendship, and support when he needed it most. He later married Teresa, and helped raise her four children and cherished their growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren as his own. Later in life, he found a special companion in Rebecca Oney, who, like him, was a dialysis patient. Their shared journey through illness created a deep bond, and they found comfort, companionship, and understanding in one another. His life was marked by many health struggles and countless battles especially losing his son Jack and Mother and Father, yet he faced each challenge with remarkable strength from Jesus, determination, and courage. Time and again, he overcame obstacles that would have defeated many, inspiring those around him with his perseverance. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Francis and Theodore; his treasured son, Jack; and his siblings Theodore, Jack, Dean, Lottie, Doug, and Dennis, brother in laws Edward Marin Sr and Robert Cooper Sr. Son in law Brian Scott Frey He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his daughters: Monica Jennings Bell (Chris Bell), and their children Bret and Travis. Rhonda (late Edward Marin Jr.), and their children Jack, Elijah, and Briana. He is also survived by his sons: Rodney (Rebecca Santiago), and their children Antonio, Jade, Aniyah, Abrianna, Brayden, Amilia, and Rodney Jr., Theodore and his daughter Mariah. He is lovingly remembered by the grandchildren of his late son Jack: Makayla (Michah), Olivia, Emily, Anthony, Jack Jr., and Isabella. He is survived by his beloved sisters: Lydia (Rich Pugh) and Denise (late Edward Marin Sr.). He is also lovingly remembered by the family he helped raise with Teresa, including Roberto, Teresa, Margarita, and Jacqueline, as well as their 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly and had a special bond with all of them. He was the Gypsy King in our family. His faith in The Lord was strong and he knew where his help came from. He leaves behind countless memories, stories, laughter, and lessons that will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his strength, love, and spirit will remain with us always. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23 Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday July 28 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Richards Funeral Home, 29 Bross Street in Cairo. A celebration of Rodney's life will take place at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday July 29 at Wiltwyck Cemetery 145 Pine Grove Ave in Kingston. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Richard's Funeral Home in Cairo.
